Why do I hear much better at night (with no background noise)?

I watch anime a lot during the day and at night (using earbuds), and noticed that I have to turn it up a lot more to hear it well during the day than during the night, even with no background noise. At night, the normal day volume sounds pretty loud, and vice versa. I generally keep the volume no louder than what sounds like a normal conversation to me at the time. i am just curious about this, plus I've always worried about my hearing too much.

Well clearly the light pollution is blocking all of the sound. You can fix this by closing your eyes
Because people talk during the day and people sleep during at night. Most of the time at night, it's always quiet
